Thank you for the mention, Helene! It's tricky beast isn't it, self-promotion... especially as an author! My Substack has taken many forms and had evolving purposes in the last 2.5 years. I've tried to stay "real" and post what is going on for me on a regular basis, whether it's about my novel-writing, or personal stuff to do with health or my neurodivergence, and then tried to spot what gets more engagement and pivot harder towards that. I attempt to view it as: at least I have an author platform here on Substack, so it's ready to be what it needs to be when it needs to be it. Websites and other social media are in the future for me. One thing at a time! Argh! Anyway, I'm going to read Caroline Madden's post next... Thank you again!
That sounds sensible to me. After all there is only so much you can do in a day, especially if you also want to finish writing your book. Let’s just try and have some fun along the way 💃🏻✨🙌
Love this post, Helene, and so glad you found my post helpful! I think you're so right to write about things that interest you. And lots of the writer friends you're making here will support you when you have a book coming out! So I think it's better to follow your instinct and write what lights you up! By the way I was having a look at the Book Launch Clubs info on their website (will send on to you) and they suggest lots of amazing book promotion strategies that are not based on building a huge platform, which I love! x
I think I’ve just found the Book Launch Club. It looks great, thank you 😊 And I agree, one’s heart has to be in it, why bother otherwise? It’s weekend reading time, so I’ll head over to your latest post. See you there 🤗
Yes, I totally agree. And I love their approach, will send you a link to a breakdown of their services because it’s really inspiring and has given me lots of ideas (none of which involve exhausting myself on social media!). I’d love to be able to afford them, even just for a brainstorming chat… will see how it goes! x
I’ve saved this to read later again, because I have a website waiting to be build and didn’t think about asking AI to set it up and then to replicate it. Thank you for sharing.
It speeds things up significantly! I’m not an expert, but this Lovable was a good idea to build (for free) and then move (because they start charging monthly). DM me if you have questions or need help when you’re at it. x
